John Solensten has published four novels : Good Thunder (New York: SUNY Press, 1983), The Boys of War (Istanbul: Milliyet,1992), In The Belly of The Horse (2005), Swing (Wings Press, 2005) and two short story collections, The Heron Dancer (1984) and Mowing the Cemetery (1999). He has also published more than 20 individual short stories and memoirs and more than 80 poems. His plays have been produced by theaters in Minneapolis, Duluth and Oklahoma City. Winner of several national fiction and drama awards, including the Minnesota Voices and AWP awards in fiction, he is presently completing Blue Wing a novel with the Surf Ballroom (Clear Lake, IA) and the Buddy Holly legend as fictional settings. Solensten retired from teaching at Concordia University in 1994. He lives in Ames, Iowa with his wife Brenda, a professor of English at Iowa State University.
