The Lex-Ham Community Theater offers classes for both children and adults on a variety of aspects of theater for both the beginner and the more advanced actor. The classes are offered in conjunction with the St. Paul Community Education and St. Paul Parks & Rec offices. For the St. Paul Community Education classes call 651-325-2672 to register for classes for children and 651-293-8811 to register for adult classes. If you're an experienced actor, don't let the terms "Beginner" or "Beginning" in the title scare you away. The instructors will adjust the course material to the experience level of the students.

Acting: Acting for Absolute Beginners
Through exercises in class, improvisation, and sharing energy
and ideas, students will gain basic skills of speaking and
moving in front of an audience, as well as have a good time
exploring the imagination.

Acting:
Contemporary Scene Study for Beginning Actors
This class is designed for those with little or no acting
experience. Students will learn very basic approaches to
putting a scene on stage. Basic notions of speech and
movement will be covered as well. Short scenes from
playwrights Edward Albee, Caryl Churchill, Neil LaBute, David
Mamet, Suzan-Lori Parks, Ntozake Shange and Sam Shepard
will be used.

Acting:
Improvisation for Beginning Actors
This class is for anyone interested in exploring their creative
side, enhancing their ability to think spontaneously and
enhancing their confidence in public speaking and/or
performing. Students will create original characters and
scenes in a fun, easygoing atmosphere.

Acting:
Introduction to Shakespeare for Absolute Beginning Actors
This class is designed for those with little or no acting
experience and perhaps even a little bit of a fear of William
Shakespeare’s plays. Students will learn fundamental
approaches to putting Shakespeare scenes on stage. Basic
notions of speech and movement will also be covered.
Scenes will include favorites from A Midsummer Night’s
Dream, As You Like It and Much Ado About Nothing.
